I've been wanting to finish up some Gyotaku (fish rubbings) I had printed up ages ago. When I do fish rubbings, I use my fish numerous times. I just love the process of putting the paint on the fish, laying the cloth over and gently rubbing the fish from head to tail. There's something magical that happens. I do get into a meditative state. So here's some finished pieces: I've added borders and free motion machine quilted.

How cool is that. Thanks.
A friend gave me a framed paper fish print which I love. So I think I may have to do a fabric version. I love the skate design. Where did you get a skate to use for the printing? Also, what "dyes" do you use for the printing? I am a new reader to your blog but "I will be back"!
Karen, The skate was a rubber pretend one. The rest were real fish rubbings. I use fabric paint: mostly Setacolor and Jacquard.
Thanks for looking
Diane, Thanks so very much for answering my questions so quickly. Would not have thought to use a rubber model but sure am glad that that is what you used as opposed to the real thing for that particular print. I really like your work a lot; I suppose that is because I am a "shellaholic" and love the shore and anything related to it. There are several of your pieces that I have been staring at for quite some time today after discovering you blog via Vicki Welsh's. You have inspired me to do different work than I am used to and that is a good thing. Thanks for that!
