"3 Faces of Beryl"

"3 Faces of Beryl" is another piece I put in my local Island Art Association's Nouveau Art exhibit entitled "Black and White."  I was experimenting with monotype drawing of the faces - all fabric.  I chose the title as we were in the mist of the topical storm "Beryl" when I was working on it.  It didn't win anything but was accepted into the show, so I was pleased.  This is the same show my book won "Honorable Mention!"

The following are 3 fabric collages that I now have hanging in the Butterfield Garage Art Gallery in St. Augustine, Florida along with several other older pieces.  Butterfield created a really beautiful room for a bunch of us fiber artists.  Two of us are "wall" artists and the others are wearable art folks.  The Opening is this Friday night!  I'll upload some images after the opening.

I spent some time this afternoon collaging old book pages to future leaf printed cards like the one in the middle.  I'll be printing soon.  How I love to print leaves!

The following image, though sideways - sorry, are some of the notecards I made for a very loyal client!  Sieta orders cards every so often!  I'm lucky!  I collage papers and images printed on fabric and then stitch a little.

Lastly, this image is one I've been working on - first on the computer with  Picasa- sharpening it, posterizing it, etc.  It's of my great nephew and my grandson.  Michael took Max's hand and led him to the bubbles!  Ever so cute.  I've done a lot of stitching, working in the faces a bit.  Next comes the background and machine quilting.  I'm trying to talk myself into entering it into a fancy fiber show.  We shall see once I get it completed.  Of course, I ask for some feedback from friends and family.

I know I've been quiet but I've been working

I've been working on this needlefelted beach scene which I cut in two 4-6er's. I'm still not quite pleased but will play with them some more. Maybe some machine/hand embroidery and some teeny shells and beads??????

I'm doing some sea turtles: these are small quilts sewn to the notecards. The verse is my own, I proud to say.

I've made several on these: the pieces are 4 x 6er's in a fabric frame.

I've collaged two 10 x 8's sea turle scenes which I will be machine quilting in the next day or so.

I'm getting ready for another outdoor show plus I want to visit a sea turtle rescue center which has a gift shop. Maybe, just maybe can get some of my work there.

Mini Art, Plus

First a report of my last show - Amelia Island Fall Festival, 1st Annual!!! Great Fall weather and good foot traffic. The show was smaller than the Island's Shrimpfest but the traffic was good. And the sales rival last Shrimpfest. Folks seem to like the smaller and more intimate show venue. I like both festivals and hopefully participate in them in the future.

Now my mini art - My small art quilts have been popular so I'm branching out, doing my collage and machine sketching - mounting each on a note card. I'm adding a bit of my personal haiku to some. I'm having fun with playing with words as well as with fabric.

I've completed another "A Day at the Beach" scene as well. Gotta take a pic of that.

I'm heading to Savannah, GA for Christmas Made in the South tomorrow. I do the show in Jacksonville Thanksgiving weekend as well.

Busy, busy, busy

I've been enjoying making my new pin/pendants, using fabric reproductions plus bits of lace and cheesecloth. I've added some beads as well. I concentrated on the "nature" ones as I'm heading off for Bar Harbor, Maine for the Annual Workshop and Meeting of the Nature Printing Society. I'll be learning some new printing techniques as well as refining those I've known already. I've never been to Maine - some breath-taking scenery. Plus, it's gotta be cooler than here in Florida!
I've finished, well, practically, finished, the Christmas wreath piece - I printed the evergreens a while back. I ran out of thread doing the border. I'll be picking up more thread this morning so it'll be done. I'd like to take that with me along with some other "nature printing" work to Maine. Here's also another 12 x 9 grape leaf piece. Sure like the grape vines/leaves! I've completed tons of 4x6er's and note cards as well. Getting ready for the Stone Mountain Art Festival in Atlanta 2nd weekend in September.

Been working on small items

I've been so very busy! Mostly working on some items for the Stone Mountain, GA Yellow Daisy Festival (Sept 6 - 9). I'll have my "Art Quilts" up but need a bunch of smaller items as I believe this show is more "craft" than "art." We shall see. I try to come up with creations that I enjoy making a bunch of and still consider "art." So, there's a bunch of 4x6's: featuring ginkgo leaves, dogwoods and daisies. I'll be creating some music themed 4x6's as well. Of course, Halloween is coming, so I may make some pumpkin pin/magnet cards. I had fun making those last year! Included are pics of the bookmarks I create: leaves, turtles, fish. There's some of the flowers that I have to add yarns and beads to. I've been at the computer as well - to design note cards that I will attach a mini art quilt to. There's two pics of these: the 4 ginkgo cards and the one dogwood that has a saying underneath. I enjoy researching the meaning of things and quotes/poems/sayings of them.

Now for dinner - my turn to cook!

Backin the Oceanside Studio

I actually relaxed on vacation. Read a lot! Ate and drank a lot. Had a great visit with sister/brother in-laws and their children. Couldn't asked for better weather! I wrote my thank you postcards to clients but that was it for my fiber work. Got to work in the studio soon after I returned home, though. First was to finish up the Leafy Turtles - did add some blue Shiva paintstick on the water part. Think I'll add more on the one I was a little heavy in parts. I like these and I don't. Huh?????? Gotta look at them some more.

I got really involved in my "Pirate Book" - a meandering book from Cloth Paper Scissors, Winter 2005, Issue 5. Again I'm enjoying the process. This pic is the work in progress. Want to embellish a bit more. I am pondering on how to display this piece - an entry to local art co-op challenge.

Pondering over my discharged black fabric of a while back - want to get moving on that pieces/pieces. Began creating more of the fabric reproductions note cards. I do enjoy the collaging.
