My friend, Nancy, and I taught some senior citizens the other day leaf printing. They seemed to thoroughly enjoyed themselves, as we did. The above is an example. I stapled two 9 x 12" papers together. The leaf was painted using a foam rubber brayer and placed on the bottom sheet, the top was lowered and rubbed. This was repeated, changing leaves, changing paints. My thought was to cut the bottom creation up into notecards but the folks wanted it left whole. So, we cut off the stapled part and cut the top sheet up into notecard size and a leaf or two were printed, using scrap paper over the painted leaf so as not to get paint on the fingers. Ha, ha! It was just amazing to see these folks work.

I came right home and printed up some leaves. How I love to print leaves!! I even went on to printing on silk - The close weave of the silk allowed for very detailed prints. Can't wait to turn this into art.

Needle Felting another book Cover

Needle felted different sheer fabrics onto acrylic felt and machine stitched. I added ribbon and the felt palm tree to finish. This is for a Shrimpfest customer.

Machine needle felted roving, cheesecloth onto acrylic felt, machine stitched, cut apart and wove. I'll machine quilt the backing fabric and attach the felted piece. Shells, driftwood and beads will finish it up.

Shrimpfest is this weekend!

The Isle of Eight Flags Festival or Shrimpfest is this weekend in Fernandina Beach, Florida. I've done this local outdoor event for 6 years now. I love showing in my own town. It's a great festival, if I say so myself. The Island Art Association of which I'm a member runs the "Art" part of the festival. There's antiques as well as lots of shrimp and other foods. And of course, the pirates!!!!

Monoprint Quilted

I decided to add borders and machine quilt another of my previous monoprints. This print has 3 layers - the stitching added more dimension and texture. Ahhh.... the urge to monoprint is creeping up again.

I had some more fun working with "strips." I've used mostly commercially printed fabrics with this series. I love the idea of using up some of my stash. I normally prefer to create my own designs, but I do have a huge stash from my traditional quilted days.

Two of these pieces are on rods with crocheted yarns, beads and fabric dangles. The other three are on stretcher bars.
