I've Been Working - Zentangles/photo to fabric

"Inspired by the Zentangle® method of pattern drawing."
This morning was our local artsy quilt gathering.  The group is called "Itching to Stitch."  We get together once a month to catch up with the news, show your art/projects and then do a hands-on project.  I often share some surface design technique.  I decided at last minute to introduce zentangles, something I've only begun researching.  I love to get on google and spend hours on different topics.  So I showed examples, handed out paper and pens and encouraged the drawing.  I think a good time was had by all.  I had stitched up an example as well just to show that one could draw using the sewing machine.  Drawing zentangles is something I'll continue.  Maybe I'll get into the meditative state users have testified about.  Maybe, just maybe I'll stitch one up on a regular basis.  No promises though.

The next piece is one that did not work out so well.  I've spent more time in Photoshop Elements to work on a better value change - more changes.  So I'm just about ready to stitch up another one.  This one I'll practice adding stitching.

I'll be putting up another photo to fabric piece of my son's 2 VW's - a bus, which he's since sold and his original bug, which he still has.  This one is for the new exhibit at the Island Art Association titled "Traveled Roads."  I figured that these two vehicles have traveling many, many roads in their lifetime.

Itching to Stitch

I belong to a local group of eclectic fiber lovers, Itching to Stitch.  We get together once a month and share our work, our art, our craft, and friendship.  This month I was the "leader" and introduced (though we've seen the idea before) fun foam stamping. We cut up children's fun foam, adhered the pieces and parts to a piece of transparency, cut it to size, and stamped away on fabric.  I just wanted the gals to get another taste of creating their own personal stamps.  I believe they all had a good time.  I sure did!
Here's an example of one of my stamps fun foam adhered to a thicker foam I made earlier. We used a piece of transparency cut to size this time.  I got the idea of the transparency from this month's Cloth Paper Scissors Magazine.  I love the fact that the stamps take up less room in storage and that I can see to position the stamp when printing. And perhaps less expensive materials! Simple materials, great results, if I say so myself!

More Spring Postcards

I couldn't stop creating the paper/fabric postcards and had to do one for myself. Fun for sure.
This card started with the large flower. My local "Itching to Stitch" group of mixed media fiber friends gather once a month. This past month, Jayne Gaskins at www.jaynegaskins.com, demonstrated her thread painting using an enhanced photo. Then she patiently helped us do our own. I attached a leaf printed leaf and the flower on a simply quilted postcard.
I've attached the 2 postcards using a ribbon and hung them by my front door where I change out the fiber art according to the season. Some holidays I've added postcards from my marvelously creative sister, Marlene.
