So Tickled

The Language of Leaves IV won Honorable Mention at my local Island Art Association's Nouveau Art Exhibit entitled "Black and White!"  I'm pleased to say the least.  I thoroughly enjoyed the leaf printing - some monotypes involved and some stitching.  No fabric, only paper.  More bookmaking is in the future! Check the last post for more images of the pages.

I have had a ball completing two artist made books featuring leaf prints.  I printed the leaves, then collaged them to lage paper, folded and made a few cuts, added some machine and/or hand stitching, made covers and voila - two books.  I just love the whole process.  There are more books in the future, I am sure.

I have bits and pieces of fabrics - some leaf printed on my table.  I'll be working on a fabric collage next!

Block Carving and Exhibit

I've carved some turtles.  This one is a bigger one than I usually carve - 8x10"  I've used a couple for my composition book covers - I had to cut out the turtle though as the 8x10 didn't look right.

Below is a photo from a recent exhibit I was juried in and won "Honorable Mention."  The show was sponsored by my fiber group - Fiber Artists Network, Jacksonvill3, Florida.  The show was exhibited at the Butterfield Gallery, St. Augustine, Florida.  "Wanderlust" is a piece I created several years ago.  The theme for the show was "Faces and Places."  My fabric portraits didn't make the cut.  Oh, well, tis life of an "artist."
I'm on my way to Kentucky to see my grandson and daughter.  When I return, I have 2 pieces to create and finished:  one a book and the other a fabric wall hanging - both figuring leaf prints.  Art on hold as family calls!  And what a pleasure!

Into linocuts and printing

Taking a class in cutting linoleum from a great artist friend.  This is a 6x4 block in the style of Picasso - first print/ reduction

Second printing after removing my lino.  Kind of cool I think.

A turtle, of course!  I live at the beach!  6x4

These little guys are about 3x3
I have more to share - I'll get the photos up soon!  Carving my own blocks is  very addictive.

Latest, very latest work

The following two pieces are mixed media:  the top one is a collage of different papers:  the second is a painted background, collaged moon, and nature printing.  Both for for the upcoming Nouveau Art Exhibit at my local Island Art Association.  The theme is "And let there be light."  I was majoring stuck with this theme using my favorite media - fabric and decided to work with paper.  I had a ball.  Hope the two pieces are accepted into the show.  Time will tell.

Last week, I taught a nature printing workshop at the Art Association.  The "students" printed shirts, dish towels, and notecards.  I introduced collage to the notecards first then leaf printed.  Here's an example of the notecards I did.

The above is my "caterpillar" bracelet.  A good fiber/bead artist, Ronnie Melnick, taught this technique to my local "Itching to Stitch" group:  artists, quilters, crafters.  It took me awhile but it's done.  I love it.  And I plan to create at least one more - a sea/beach theme.  It's absolutely a hoot to wear!

Was I ever thrilled to received "The Natural World" by Martha Seilman yesterday in the mail.  And on page 53 is my "Beach Combers."  The book is fabulous and I am honored to be a part of it.  Thank you, Martha!

Low Tide

"Low Tide"  12 x 12" created by Diane Hamburg $150
"Low Tide" detail.
www.fanfarejax.blogspot.com (please visit this blog to see what the others have created) is the blog that 19 fiber artists of Jacksonville, FL is sharing their art pieces of different themes.  The first theme was "Free to Play."  I choose to use an image of my grandson Max, playing freely on the beach.  He had a great time!  And this grandma, Granny, had a great time watching him explore the place she holds quite dear.  I used my standby technique of Ellen Lindner - double reverse applique.  I worked harder with the background which was quite enjoyable.  I'm pleased with the result and plan on developing more images of Max at the beach in the near future.
