Needle felted pieces
I recently got inspired by the work of Jane LaFazio
at http://janeville.blogspot.com/. Instead of filing the inspiration away, I went to work. I pulled out my needlefelting machine and created the top piece. The second piece was created while involved with the online class "Embellish Stitch and Enrich" with Dale Rollerson I took ages ago. While watching the Australian Open, I embroidered away. This brought back memories of early handwork and the joy of holding textiles and the luscious threads and yarns. More of this work is in the oven! Thanks to Jane who awoke the pleasure of neele felting and embroidery in me.

Needle felting
My local Art Association holds a juried themed exhibit every two months. The current exhibit is entitled "The Approaching Storm." I made these two machine needle felted pieces - entered the single tree one. That one I felted on netting, then felted the finish piece onto linen and stretched it on stretcher strips. The other one was felted using acrylic felt as a base. I just loved the felting on netting.
I want to play more with my embellisher. That's a sure thing.

Oh, it's been much too long since last post
Didn't realize how the time has passed by and I haven't blogged. So, sorry!
I have been working - continuing experimenting with discharging black fabrics. I have finished 4 pieces so far. I have also been playing with the embellisher. I think I'll try and use the word "experimenting" though I am having a great deal of fun. I'm broadening my fiber techniques.
The images depict my thread sketching and my newly found joy of creating haiku - well, at least my version of haiku. The number of syllables isn't always in line. But I am enjoying the composing of the words as I walk the beach. I come home and thread sketch - sometimes to go along with the words. My goal was to do sketch daily but I don't always get in that mode when I return home. Sometimes I can get very "artsy" during my walks but sometimes I can only think of what's going on in my life.

Home for Awhile
Geez, it's great being back home. The weather's finally cooler and simply delightful!
No pics of my latest work. I've been playing with silk cap bowls - still drying and the needlefelting machine- just playing and experimenting. There's a learning here for both these activities.
Going to a Bead Show with some fiber friends today. Jewels are almost as grand to touch as fabric and fiber!
I'll have pics up soon.

Must get packing!
Trying to get organized for the trip to Maine and the Nature Printing Society's Annual Workshop and Meeting. A big bag of supplies for the workshops themselves. Two big bags of materials to complete: bookmarks, 4x6er's, needlefelted balls that will be pendants, fabric charms to be wired and findings attached, Humm.... what else??? Oh I must pack some clothes!!!! Luckily husband, Jim, handles the driving, maps, motels. I might be able to post while up in Maine. We shall see. I'm so excited.
Besides the excitement of the trip, I made time to attend the FAN meeting. Fabric Artists Network - artists from Fernandina and Jacksonville area - a wonderfully divergent group of fiber artists. We sure have fun. We made clay, regular clay, the kind that must be fired and glazed, buttons and beads. One of the gals will fire our doings Raku style! Earthly, organic looking!
I got into designing another series of nature prints: the inspiration was the colors I used to print the leaves - then I rediscovered some decorator fabrics that had the same greens and voila! A new series. I just had to finish designing, pin basting. They're be ready for me to quilt when I get home in 10 days!!! I've included a teaser for you! And there is more designer fabrics awaiting!
Til Maine!
Oh, now how could I forget! I could not resist purchasing an embellisher while at the FAN meeting - we meet at a quilt shop in Jax. I innocently asked the price - and got a cut on the sale price. I'm tickled. I've just been gazing at it. Really longing to get my hands on it but time is way too short. That'll be waiting for me as well.
Now, Cheers.
