Somerset Memories

Do check  out the new Somerset Memories.  Several members of the "Remains of the Day" scrappy fabric class taught online by Mary Ann Moss are featured in an article.  I am thrilled.  Heather Simpson-Bluhm gathered all the journals and submitted our work to Stampington.  Thank you, Mary Ann, for such a great class and thank you, Heather, for all the energy and work in submitting the journals.

Merry Christmas

I'm heading up to Kentucky for the pending arrival of my first grandchild.  I am ever so excited.  I haven't been doing much "art" per say.  I've made a few baby things:  crochet hats, fabric balls and blankets.  I English paper pieced small hexagons for an "I spy" quilt ages ago for a little one (when I was dreaming of grandchildren).

I did create a scrappy fabric journal like the one Mary Ann Moss teaches at http://dispatchfromla.typepad.com/ (She's having a December discount for the class).

This journal is "Baby boy" themed.  Imagine that.  I plan to document the fella's arrival and first days with his mommy, daddy, granny and gramps.  Maybe someday the fella will enjoy looking at it with me.  I know I'll enjoy writing my thoughts, adding pictures, etc.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year!

Scrappy Travel Journal

As promised, here is my travel journal of my trip to the West:  Northern California to Southwest Oregon which includes the Nature Printing Society's Workshop in Charleston, Oregon.  These are just a few pages.  The travel follows Mary Ann Moss's "Remains of the Day" scrappy journal process.  I started off with 80 pages and ended with 80+ I added pages.  I think next time i travel (France river cruise, July 2011) I'll made more signatures and a wider binding.  This journal is tough to close.

Scrappy Leaf Printed Journals

I am heading to Oregon for this year's Nature Printing Society's Workshop and wanted to bring some small work to sell.  The previous entry showed the 4x6" pieces I've made.  These images are the Scrappy Journals (Mary Ann Moss's influence) using leaf prints on the cover fabrics and prints on papers.  I used papers I painted while cleaning off my brushes and brayers when I finished my leaf printing.  Fun, fun, fun!

More Shabby, Scrappy Journals

I just love making these shabby, scrappy journals. I love using up my scraps of fabric for the covers and added elements to the inside papers. I painted most of the paper, using the paint that was left on the brayers and brushes after painting fabrics. And of course, I'm using up papers in my ever abundant pile of stuff. I received many nice compliments from my visitors to my booth in Orlando. Even sold one!!!! The journals are just fun to hold and leaf through. I'm been journaling in my first journal and that's fun as well. I can't thank Mary Ann Moss at www.dispatchfromla.typepad.com for a wonderful class - Remains of the Day. Plus, she's given her students permission to sell their creations.

Scrappy Journal Pages

The pages are in the cover. I had a great time creating the pages: sewing on collage pieces. The 2 signatures were machine sewn together then hand stitched to the cover. I'm tickled with the result. Now, all that's left is to insert photos and journal. And that's a big order. I have to decide what the journal's going to be about. I'm thinking about journaling my "artist's" routine. We'll see after the new year.

New Journal Online class

I'm in the mist of another wonderful online class led by Mary Ann Moss at Dispatch from LA. It's called Remains of the Day. This is my first attempt at shabby chic. My traditional quilt background reared it's head but I willing to work on the more spontaneous style of shabby... Uses up scraps of which I have tons. The cover was made slipcover like with a file folder inside.
This is the outside of the journal. This is the journal all wrapped up.

This last one is the inside cover.Today I will get to make the inside pages. There is to be two signatures of 10 folded pages. Can't wait to let loose and create.

I'm back from Alaska and ready to create again

I 've almost finished my journal that I did for my Stencilry class.
I added some scrapbook paper and hand painted papers to make 3 signatures and sew them to my cover.

I spaced the signatures too far apart and ended up adding to more signatures of scrapbook paper and music sheets to fill the book up. I plan to add beaded to the threads. And art journal on the inside. I'm thinking of documenting my art experiments.

This all came about due to Mary Ann Moss's online Stencilry classes. http://dispatchfromla.typepad.com/. Again Mary Ann is a fabulously talented artist and teacher.

Spray painting and Stenciling

This is the cover. I love Mary Ann's technique of dribbling paint from a squeeze bottle to make marks. I just love this lime color.

I've been quiet I know. Here are some of my pages for my new Stencil book. I'm taking another online class from Mary Ann Moss. This class involves spray painting, stenciling and stitching. I'm still working on the spray painting and stenciling - particularly the colors of paint. There's a learning curve. I'm not happy with my colors but I think that after adding stamps and collage elements, I'm be much happier. But that will all have to wait until I'm back from my Alaska land and sea cruise. I leave tomorrow. I'm taking a journal which I hopefully will fill with collage and words.
