New Work

These two pieces were first monoprints on paper which I then printed on specially treated fabric. Then I added a border and machine quilted.

"Beach Combers" is a mixed media piece. I roughly cut fabric strips and spray painted my own bird stencils and machine quilted. Separately, I stenciled the larger birds on old book pages and glues them down using gel medium and added more stitching. I embellished the piece with driftwood, shells and beads.

"Celebrate Shrimp" continues my discharge series. I used my own shrimp stencil, plus some of my own painted and printed discharge fabrics. There's a printed book page as well.

Alaska Scrapbook

I sent some time making 2 fabric covers for my Alaskan paper collection. The first book has multiple pages. The second is really just a folder of loose maps and flyers. I collected all kinds of information at all the places we visited, tore out images/info and glued them down. I planned to tear and paste nightly but that didn't happen. So I had a fun time creating my scrapbook once I got home.

Won an Award!!!

Just received a call telling me my "One Among Many" won a Judge's Recognition Award the the Jacksonville, Florida Quiltfest. Yippee!

I'm back from Alaska and ready to create again

I 've almost finished my journal that I did for my Stencilry class.

I added some scrapbook paper and hand painted papers to make 3 signatures and sew them to my cover.

I spaced the signatures too far apart and ended up adding to more signatures of scrapbook paper and music sheets to fill the book up. I plan to add beaded to the threads. And art journal on the inside. I'm thinking of documenting my art experiments.

This all came about due to Mary Ann Moss's online Stencilry classes. http://dispatchfromla.typepad.com/. Again Mary Ann is a fabulously talented artist and teacher.

Conservation Quotes

My FAN group is exhibiting at the Jacksonville Main Library in October. The theme is "The Language of Conservation." This is my spray painted/stenciled entry. I googled the word "conservation" to come up with the definition, synonyms and some quotes to use. I backed the spray painted/stenciled canvas with felt and stitched the words. I cut it up and arranged the pieces. The hanger is a piece of driftwood with a crocheted cord. Hope it gets juried in!! I entered a couple of art quilts as well.

"Conservation Quotes"

The painted canvas. I wrote in large letters the synonyms of conservation: protection, management, preservation, safe guard, safekeeping, restoration and maintenance using a marker. Then I spray painted using many stencils.

Spray painting and Stenciling

This is the cover. I love Mary Ann's technique of dribbling paint from a squeeze bottle to make marks. I just love this lime color.

I've been quiet I know. Here are some of my pages for my new Stencil book. I'm taking another online class from Mary Ann Moss. This class involves spray painting, stenciling and stitching. I'm still working on the spray painting and stenciling - particularly the colors of paint. There's a learning curve. I'm not happy with my colors but I think that after adding stamps and collage elements, I'm be much happier. But that will all have to wait until I'm back from my Alaska land and sea cruise. I leave tomorrow. I'm taking a journal which I hopefully will fill with collage and words.
